Art discovery, delivered differently.

The Mailbox Drop is an independent creative company built around a simple idea: interesting artists deserve interesting ways to be discovered.

We discover independent artists and create new ways to experience their work—from stories and studio visits to limited-edition art delivered through the mail and small-batch objects made by hand.

Our flagship Mailbox Drops bring together five independent artists around one shared theme. Our Object Drops take a different approach, releasing unusual, artist-made objects in small quantities.

Different formats. Same purpose: helping people discover artists and creative work worth knowing.

What if discovering an artist began with opening your mailbox?

DROP 001

January 2027

Discovery

Our first edition is called Discovery. It seemed like the only place to begin.

Five independent artists will respond to the same theme without needing to make the same kind of work, use the same medium, or approach the idea in the same way.

Their individual contributions will come together to create the first Mailbox Drop.

Participating artists and the complete edition will be revealed closer to launch.

OBJECT DROPS

Another Way to Discover

Small objects. Made by actual people.

Object Drops are the other side of The Mailbox Drop: small-batch objects made by artists and creative people we think are worth knowing.

Tiny sculptures. Odd characters. Useful things that aren't particularly useful. Some come from artists we discover. Some come from our own studio. None are mass produced.

The first Object Drop is currently taking shape, including a limited population of 100 handmade Zookie Critters by artist and co-founder Mackenzie Mahlinger.

Object Drops may begin appearing before Mailbox Drop 001 arrives in January 2027.

The Story in One Sentence

The Mailbox Drop is taking art discovery out of the feed and putting it back into the physical world.

The Story in Three Words

No algorithm required.

Something slower.

The internet has made discovering art easier than ever. It has also made that discovery increasingly fast, fleeting, and dependent on algorithms deciding what appears next.

We wanted to try the opposite.

Something physical. Something finite. Something surprising. Something you have to open.

The Mailbox Drop brings together independent art, storytelling, print, physical objects, and the simple pleasure of discovering something unexpected.

We aren't trying to replace digital art discovery. We're creating another way to experience it.

04

Built Across Places

A family-founded creative company.

Barcelona Kentucky Asia

The Mailbox Drop is being built across countries, time zones, and two generations of one family.

Our backgrounds span art, storytelling, marketing, customer experience, technology, and operations, but the company comes together around one shared idea: interesting artists deserve interesting ways to be discovered.

The artists we work with can be anywhere in the world. So can we. The things we create ultimately come together in Kentucky before beginning another journey—this time to the people receiving them.

What We Believe

Interesting artists deserve interesting ways to be discovered.

06

The People Behind the Drop

Built by family. From different creative worlds.

The Mailbox Drop brings together three different perspectives across two generations. Grant, Mackenzie, and Taylor are building the company together, combining art, storytelling, digital community, and decades of experience creating experiences for people—with a shared curiosity about how independent artists can be discovered differently.

Grant Gipe, Co-Founder of The Mailbox Drop.

Grant Gipe

Co-Founder · Business & Operations

Grant Gipe has spent more than three decades building and leading customer-focused businesses and operations across industries and countries. His career has included helping launch a mobile operator in Bulgaria, a decade in the travel industry, and leading large-scale customer operations with teams working across multiple countries and continents.

At The Mailbox Drop, Grant leads the business, technology, and operations side of the company—taking an unusual creative idea and figuring out how to make it work in the real world, from the systems behind the business to how each limited-edition Drop or small-batch object ultimately reaches the person receiving it.

He's also a writer and the author of 8-Track Boy, a coming-of-age novel set in 1978. That interest in storytelling carries into The Mailbox Drop: whether it's an artist story, a physical edition, or an unexpected object, the aim is to create a memorable experience around the moment someone discovers an artist.

Mackenzie Mahlinger, Co-Founder of The Mailbox Drop.

Mackenzie Mahlinger

Co-Founder · Art & Creative

Mackenzie Mahlinger is an artist and graduate of the Barcelona Academy of Art, where she developed her practice through traditional drawing and painting while living and studying in Barcelona.

At The Mailbox Drop, Mackenzie leads Art & Creative. She helps discover artists, shapes the visual and creative direction of the company, and brings an artist's perspective to decisions about how creative work is selected, presented, and experienced. Her role spans both the Mailbox Drops and Object Drops, from bringing together distinct creative voices to developing original artist-made objects.

Her own creative work is part of that story. Mackenzie is the artist behind the Zookie Critters, a collection of handmade polymer-clay characters appearing in the first Object Drop. She also illustrated Taylor's Tangles, a children's book written by her mother about her sister's famously tangled hair, and continues to share her own artwork, travels, and creative life through Instagram.

Taylor Mahlinger

Co-Founder · Marketing & Brand

Taylor Mahlinger is a writer, musician, marketer, and creative entrepreneur with a background in writing and communications. At The Mailbox Drop, she leads Marketing & Brand, shaping how the company tells its story, builds its audience, and introduces both the Drops and the artists behind them to a wider community.

Her creative background spans music, writing, and entrepreneurship. As a singer-songwriter, Taylor has written and released her own music, bringing firsthand experience of what it means to create something personal and then put it out into the world for others to discover.

She has also built a business with her sister, Mackenzie. Together, they founded Southern Secrets, a small-batch baked goods company offering handcrafted desserts and pastries at their local farmers' market. The experience gave Taylor an early taste of turning a creative idea into something tangible, building a brand around it, and connecting directly with the people buying it.

At The Mailbox Drop, those experiences come together: Taylor is responsible for how the brand communicates, how its community grows, and how the stories surrounding its artists, Drops, and discoveries reach a wider audience.

Yes, we know this is an unusual way to discover art. That's sort of the point.
