Artists Worth Knowing

We come across far more interesting artists than we could ever fit into a Mailbox Drop.

Discover is where we share some of them.

Michael Schwarze

Bronze Sculpture Bahlingen am Kaiserstuhl, Germany

Michael Schwarze has a remarkable ability to turn the familiar human form into something strange, playful, and unexpectedly expressive. Hands become bodies, fingers become limbs, and ordinary gestures seem to develop personalities of their own.

I first encountered Michael Schwarze's work more than twenty-five years ago and have been collecting his sculptures ever since. What caught my attention then still does today: these are works that continue to reveal something new depending on where you stand and how you look at them.

That's exactly what Discover is for — sharing artists whose work made us stop, look again, and want to know more.

Neil Sanders

Illustration, Animation Melbourne, Australia

Neil Sanders makes wonderfully odd animated characters called “Boogleys” — lopsided little creatures that dance, wobble, strut, and generally seem to be having a much better time than the rest of us. We love their strange personalities, the simplicity of Neil’s drawing, and the way a few lines and a bit of movement can make these peculiar creatures feel completely alive.

IN THE STUDIO

Where the Work Happens

We want to go beyond finished artwork and spend time in the places where it actually gets made.

Studio visits, conversations, process, works in progress, tools, routines, mistakes, experiments — and the stories behind the finished work.

Discovery Should Feel Human

Artists are everywhere. Finding the ones whose work makes you stop and look is the interesting part.

We find them at exhibitions and art fairs, through recommendations, while travelling, on social media and sometimes completely by accident.

There are no rankings here. No popularity contest. No endless feed deciding what you should see next.

Just artists we've found, liked and think are worth spending a little time with.

Something We Should See?
